...to this shared space for members of the SLIS LITA Student Group. For those who don't speak Abbreviation, that's the UW Madison School of Library and Information Studies' student chapter of the Library and Information Technology Association.

Thanks to the many hands who helped make the 2009 Open Source Open House (OSOH) a success on November 4. An archive of some of the materials presented is available on the OSOH page.

 

As librarians we need to protect our computers from viruses.  All UW- Madison students can download a legitimate copy of Symantec antivirus for free from the UW DoIT Web site. You may also wish to consider signing up for free DoIT computer classes.

Sometimes it seems like the field of library and information studies is awash in strange vocabulary and acronyms. Not sure what the terms FRBR, ligature, CSS, verso, or CIP mean? Don't let the terminology and acronyms confuse you. There is a helpful, free online dictionary of these and other LIS terms by Joan M. Reitz available at:

  • Although we had originally planned to host a basic Basic HTML workshop on Tuesday, September 22, we are canceling it. Instead, Sheilah Harrington, one of the librarians in the SLIS library, is going to be presenting two sessions on basic HTML coding.  One on Tuesday, September 22 from 9- 10:00, and another on Tuesday, September 29 from 1:15- 2:15.
  • Wednesday, November 4: Open Source Open House: learn about open source library- related software
  • Suggestions for alternate meetings and program times are being taken on the Scheduling page.
