Here are some of the basics of what we plan to present.

Laura will bring Mac. Jen will bring old hard drive to show people.

Pass out 3 x 5 cards (William will bring the cards). Ask what people are running for OS ? What they want to learn, problem they have/had? i.e. what do want us to cover?

I. security culture Laura-- think security, relate story of guy who lost not only his laptop, but also lost his only USB backup of his thesis, physical security as well as protecting data if stolen

Jen & William read cards - 5 - 10 minutes

II. backups -- William & all, strategies and techniques -20 minutes

esp. emphasize WebDav & using MyWebspace, USB sticks fail

III.gloss over external network security--mention access to free antivirus software and remind people to run a firewall and get software and security updates/patches -10 minutes ?

IV. hard disk performance -- checking for errors/scan disk and defragmenting-5-10

V. gloss over -- dusting/cleaning computer fans/heat fins and keyboards  -- emergencies/accidents 5 minutes

When it doubt, go to DO-IT.

Timing depends upon what people's initial questions are.

We need at least 5-10 minutes for questions.

Yes, this is probably more than we can fully covered, but it partially depends upon who shows up and what they need to learn.
